Good news amid the chaos

Honestly, among so many bad news, so many bad times what we are going through, an environment so heavy for our mental health, I wanted to look for some good news that is happening around the world to clear my mind of everything that is happening in Colombia. The first good news is related to the covid vaccine, I saw that both the European Union and the United States are willing to analyze patent freedom. (EPA, 20201) The United States and other countries had previously blocked WTO negotiations proposed by India and South Africa to help developing countries use the intellectual property rights of pharmaceutical companies to produce their own vaccines. Now that there are countries that have been privileged with the amount of vaccines they buy or produce, they realize that vaccination against covid-19 is one of the most important tools to fight the effects of the pandemic. Gender Equality

  One of the sustainable development goals, specifically the number 5,  talks about gender equality and that's the topic that I chose for this entry. Let's start by talking about the situation in our country; according to the UN in recent decades, Colombia has made important achievements in promoting gender equality and empowering women, although there is still a need to close related gaps. Colombia has ratified all current international treaties on human rights and women's rights, and has made significant progress in the enactment of laws to promote gender equality and protect the human rights of women. According to the 2018 “Censo Nacional de Población y Vivienda”, Colombia has a population of 14.2 million households, of which around 6 million are women (40.7%) as heads of household.
